M/S Adult Transition Classroom Tour

Introduction

This classroom tour was provided by an Ed. Specialist in a Mod Severe Adult Transition classroom in Southern California.  This teacher chose to remain anonymous but graciously shared their setup to help inspire other teachers with their own classroom setups!

Classroom Tour

This is our welcome table, and also where my paraprofessionals sit when they are not helping students.  I also put things on this table that I need help with from my paraprofessionals.  I label their tasks with post-its, and they help me with day-to-day tasks such as laminating or sorting paperwork for students.

Student Business

These are the bread machines that we use for our bread business called “Loaves of Love”.  Our students love to be a part of this business from start to finish.  They shop for the ingredients, bake the bread, label the bread, and package it for sale, and we even have a group of students who help to track the proceeds that we make from the sales.

As part of our business, we take our students into the community to do the shopping for the ingredients we need to make the bread for the week.  We sell three loaves per week.  Students help to take inventory of what we need to purchase for each recipe.  We make White, Wheat, and Cinnamon Raisin, and for the holidays we bake a special pumpkin bread.

Here is our ingredient station where our recipes are posted for the students to reference.  The bread business is also a wonderful way for students to learn measurements.  They use the scales to measure in grams the amounts to put in each recipe.

Goal Work Center & Binders

This is our goal work binder center.  This is where we keep data for the task boxes, daily work, and Boom Card data.  Students also have dividers in these binders so that they can store their finished work.  This is a great way for us to track progress and for students to look back and see all they have accomplished during the year.  These are wonderful to show at Back to School Night and Open House as well.  I use the SPEDADULTING daily work in one section, as well as the SPEDADULTING daily functional comprehension sheets.  I LOVE these for my students, and it gives them a great routine to follow.

This is our weekly goal work center.  Each folder is labeled for the students and color-coded based on their levels.  Students know to pick up their folder work here when it’s time for them to do their goal work.  When students complete their goal work, they will place it in the tray for grading.  My paraprofessionals help immensely with this process by setting up their folders each Monday and helping to grade their daily work.

Student Store

This is our student store.  With the proceeds from the “Loaves of Love” business, students can go on Amazon or let me know when we are on an outing, something they would like to work for.  We use the money we make from our business to purchase student incentives, that the students then can earn for positive behavior and work.  On the right, you can see their dollar folders.  Each day, the students receive one dollar if they follow the classroom norms, have positive behavior, and are helpful during the day. This is a great way for students to stay on task during the day.

Chillout Corner

This is the chillout corner.  The students enjoy coming to this space in the room to take a break and relax during their free time.  Sometimes, when a student is feeling overwhelmed or needs support with coping skills, they can use this space to do that as well.

Product Reviews

from special educators

Theresa S.

This resource has been extremely beneficial. I teach students with moderate to severe disabilities who are on a certificate of completion for high school. This resource was helpful in establishing a routine for my students. Students remained engaged and enjoyed many of the activities. The consistency of the warm-ups allow for me to introduce students to working together appropriately and seeking help and support from peers not just teachers. The differentiated levels help save time and support students varying levels. Students remain engaged and it quickly hits on different life skills reviews.
Life Skills Daily Warm Up Worksheets BUNDLE

Christine S.

I love everything about this resource. There are enough activities to last a year. The lectures and digital activities are my favorite with the real photographs. My students are learning and there seems to be enless materials in this bundle. I also love the creative CBI (community based instruction) ideas that go beyond the typical scavenger hunt.
Vocation Units 1-12 Full Year MEGA Bundle + Supplemental Materials

Adulting Made Easy makes the absolute perfect resources for my Life Skills students who are about to graduate. Her resources teach practical skills that they will use in their lives and they don't view as being too immature for them (which is common in sped). Thank you so much for creating these resources!

As a teacher new to the role in vocational education, Adulting Made Easy's vocational products work great! It was an easy way for my students to understand various aspects of job searches and employment.   The vocational units saved me a ton of time by not having to create items on my own.

This was awesome to use with both my at-home learners and my in-person learners. I could use specific ones with our weekly theme during my vocational skills class. It was especially great at keeping my at-home kids engaged when I wasn't there to watch them.

Teaching Tiny Bugs (TpT Seller)

My students love using this resource for their morning work. I have many non writing students, so being able to engage in a lesson with them using drag and drop and visual icons is the reason this have become one of my favorite resources this year.
